How does one become a Catholic?
Those who have not been previously baptized or who have been baptized in another Christian tradition, become Catholic Christians through a process called the Order of Christian Initiation of Adults or OCIA. Through the process they are baptized (if necessary) and celebrate the sacraments of Confirmation and Eucharist. The celebration of the sacraments of initiation normally take place at the Easter Vigil.
The Catholic Church warmly welcomes new members and tries to provide a spiritual formation according to each person’s need.
Through the OCIA:
- The Church encourages an ongoing conversation to Jesus Christ
- Candidates are provided a structure for the proclamation of the Gospel
- The teachings of the Church are passed on through catechesis
- Spiritual direction is offered
- Sundays, feasts and the seasons of the year are celebrated.
- Direct contact with members of the parish community is encouraged and facilitated.
Who is OCIA for?
It is for adults and children (over the age of seven or in the first grade) who wish to join the Roman Catholic Church. Contact us or call Karyn Haider at 406.656.2522.
